Here are some important factors to consider before deciding on a VPS web hosting plan:

The Price

There are three main types of VPS web hosting: unmanaged hosting, managed hosting and unmetered hosting. In terms of pricing, metered and unmetered hosting are more affordable. With managed VPS, you will be given 24-hour server monitoring through an experienced professional system administrator, but this service comes with a more expensive price tag.

Bandwidth

The bandwidth you choose will depend on the amount of data your site has and the amount of traffic expected every day. In terms of bandwidth allocation, there are generally two options to choose from: unmetered bandwidth VPS and metered VPS. Unmetered bandwidth VPS means that there is an unlimited amount of data transfer allowed at a maximum data transfer rate.

This is much like unmetered bandwidth dedicated servers but these plans offer bandwidth pipes that are available to you only, unlike in VPS where it is shared among other independent machines. Metered bandwidth means that you are charged based on your monitored bandwidth usage. Make sure you consult with your web hosting provider regarding the bandwidth allocation your site needs.

Uptime

This is one of the most important factors when choosing a metered of unmetered VPS hosting plan, yet it is very difficult to measure. You will need maximum uptime and very minimal or no downtime.

Power

VPS pricing varies depending on how much power and space your site needs. It is always safe to start with the smallest plan, especially for new online businesses, then expand as the need arises. Remember though to be realistic and account for at least one year of potential expansion when choosing a plan.

Features

Most VPS hosting works the same way – there are aspects that are easy to manage, among those are the backup tools. If you are planning on hosting several websites on one virtual private network, make sure that you choose a plan that allows unlimited domains on the same VPS.

If you have no idea as to which VPS hosting plan is good for you, don’t hesitate to consult one of us here at NQhost. We have a wide variety of plans and packages to suit your every need.

Choosing an online store can be difficult enough for one to wonder about the advantages that may be brought by such a decision; the website has to offer impressive features in order to impress every potential buyer. The website also needs to project a certain professional image that can capture the attention of every visitor who is interested in purchasing a certain item. The shopping cart is important because it will have to deal with personal information that has to be handled very carefully in order to avoid identity theft. The credit card numbers are to be protected too because many people are likely to become nervous when facing the possibility of online purchasing. People need to be reassured that reputable companies are using their personal information and they have to trust these companies as well.

There are many cart services that can be provided to every user; for instance, the wide variety will consist of merchant services, hosted shopping services and fully integrated carts. The shopping cart software may come along with merchant services that will require every user to have his gateway and merchant account. This merchant account is actually a special account that is used by the bank in order to allow every business to contact the credit card transactions. The gateway will allow all the transactions to be controlled and conducted by using a secure connection. But it is ok if you do not have your own gateway or merchant account because the service carts may allow you to use their accounts instead; higher costs are to be expected in this case too.

The merchant services are highly beneficial to every small online business; if an online store does not have enough orders, it can use the merchant services in order to have a god start in the business. All the merchant services will provide the necessary accounts and carts. They will also store the personal information of every client in a safe manner but they are also likely to require an extra fee that will come along with every transaction. The merchant carts may have a special administrative interface; this interface will allow every user to login in order to buy the necessary items. He will be able to add them to his own cart. But some potential buyers are also likely to become discouraged by the fact that a certain site does not have a positive reputation; they will avoid entering their personal information on different sites that are total strangers for them.

The hosted shopping cart is another option that can be provided by the shopping cart software; this alternative is a great solution when it comes to small businesses that are not able to have the necessary resources. These carts may also be used in order to customize an already existing shopping cart. The fully integrated carts can be customized thanks to the hosted services thus transforming the products and services into more appealing items that may convince every potential buyer. The hosted carts are similar to the merchant ones; they are also likely to provide the administrative interface in order for the user to enter all the chosen products along with their shipping and pricing options. The hosted carts will generate the necessary html in order for the purchase buttons to function and the html can also be pasted and copied into personal pages.

But the hosted carts may face some problems too; for instance, all the buyers will be transferred to another site in order to enter their personal information. The credit card number and information will be introduced by accessing other sites that are connected with the hosted carts. Some of the hosted carts may allow you to customize the entire shopping cart thanks to their shopping cart software. The cart may be customized in order to look as a familiar site but the customizing process may need some extra programming skills; this extra feature may also prevent the customers from abandoning their current shopping carts.

The fully integrated carts may become the best alternative in the case of larger businesses; the shopping cart will have dynamic features that are not to be found in the case of the merchant services or hosted carts. For instance, the user can discount all the existing items and it can also display different customer reviews. The products will be assigned to different categories and the stock notifications will also be displayed on the website interface. The prices and products will be sorted and the interface will even display all the shipping estimates without having to require every customer to have or create his own account.

The online store can be created by using the merchant services that can be provided be the shopping cart software.

Once you have an ecommerce site you need to ensure that it is well designed and easy to navigate. Something else you need to pay attention to is the shopping cart you choose. Many webmasters go astray here and choose the most affordable shopping cart or one a friend recommends. The problem here is that each ecommerce site has its own needs for a shopping cart and using one that is recommended by a friend might not be the best option unless the friend has a website comparable to yours. The most affordable shopping cart might not be the best option, either. There are few things you will need to keep in mind when it comes to choosing a shopping cart. For example, does the shopping cart software make checking out easy? This did not used to be a consideration for webmasters because they didn’t really think it mattered one way or another. However, with close to 50% of online shoppers taking part in cart abandonment, where they add items to their cart only to abandon them before purchase, is making webmasters stop and think about their shopping carts. Usually, the number one reason a shopper will abandon their cart is because the checkout process takes longer than it should, asks for too much information or to sign up for an account, or does not provide a total for the price plus shipping before charging the credit card. All of these are reasons why shoppers abandon their carts and reasons why webmasters need to pay attention to the shopping cart they choose for their website. When the shopping cart involves very few processes and limits the checkout process to one page then cart abandonment will be less of a problem for the website. Also, the shopping cart needs to be easy to use by the webmaster. If it isn’t then there could be periods of downtime where shoppers can’t check out. That is something you will definitely want to avoid. Keep in mind, too, that it is important to have a shopping cart that is search engine friendly. What this means is that you want the search engines to be able to search your catalog of items within your website. A shopping cart that utilizes static pages is recommended and will prove helpful. These are just a few of the things you will need to keep in mind when it comes to choosing a shopping cart. Things like price, ease of setup and maintenance, and the like are also quite important for you to consider before buying a shopping cart software.

When you decide to begin your online business, one of the most important tools at your disposal is an e-commerce shopping cart. This will allow your customers to purchase products from you quickly, and more efficiently. E-commerce shopping carts should be easy to use, reliable, flexible, and expandable, since your new business will be constantly growing and changing.
There are many different types of carts to choose from, and each boasts unique features. Your software should allow you to have complete control over the design of your store, using either templates, or your own custom created pages. In addition, the software should allow for the easy change of head and body tags on each pages, and advanced navigation bar tools.
Of course the most comprehensive software available does very little good if it is difficult to install and use. Make sure that the program that you choose includes a web accessible administration interface, which means that there will be nothing to install on your computer, and a version history that will automatically record each store design component change.
There are many benefits to having an e-commerce website. For one thing, a business website presence significantly broadens the market reach for your business, allowing local retailers, like you, to market and sell your products across the country, and the world. An online retail site also results in significantly reduced information distribution costs, and allows you to provide traditional business marketing information, including product spec sheets, catalogues, proposals, and more, in both a real time and cost-effective manner.
In addition, a website with online retail capability and an e-commerce shopping cart will result in a dramatic increase in sales, and the web presence of your site. More and more these days, customers expect to be able to access and use shopping carts to purchase products on a website. The Internet provides a way for customers to give and receive feedback as well, in a real time fashion. Instead of ordering products via the telephone or by mail, and having to wait for product feedback via the same methods, consumers can now accomplish all of these steps at one online location. E-commerce shopping carts truly are an industry standard, and no successful online business would even think of not having one. Take the time to research your options carefully before making a purchase, and be sure to familiarize yourself with all of the specifications of your new product, and you will be well on your way to e-business success

More than people ever know, choosing a merchant account provider is a very important task because it ensures the stability and the success of the business in the future. Since it is a very important task that should be paid attention to the soonest possible time, it can be overwhelming especially if the person in-charge does not know what to do and where to start with it. If you are in charge of choosing a merchant account provider, it’s a must that you are well aware about it so you know where to start. Gathering information through research is the best way to go about it since you can have enough information and you will know what to expect. Here some considerations You must make when choosing merchant account provider :The Structure of Fees. When choosing merchant account provider, one of the first things to consider is the fees. To determine if the merchant account provider is right for you, check if it offers reasonably low fees. When choosing a merchant account provider, don’t get overwhelmed by the super low fees that it offers because more often that not, they don’t offer good services and they charge for hidden fees. It is better to choose a merchant account provider that offers an average rate as compared to those that offer unbelievably low charges because in the end, you will only be forced to pay for something that you did not expect. Technical Support Options and Customer Service Practices. This is very important because this will give you an idea if you can get advantages as early as possible. Good customer services practices is very important when choosing a merchant account provider because this will determine the quality of service that you can get when emergency arises. You can gauge if the merchant account provider has good customer service if the persons involved pay utmost attention to what the customers or clients have to say or inquire about, if it has a toll free customer service number, the length and coverage of the customer service hours and can give immediate and initial answer to questions that are commonly asked. Choose A Merchant Account Provider That Will Suit Your Needs. Knowing your personal needs will help you decide which merchant account provider will be the best for you. For those who will be needing credit cards for international use, it is best to apply for those that can help you do transactions even you are out of the country. Make sure that the merchant account provider will see to it that you won’t have financial hassles along the way.

The Merchant Account Should Provide A Reserve Issue. This refers to the fee that the merchant account provider—through a processor—will ensure that there will be an insurance if ever there will be “charge backs” that comes along the way during any specific transaction. To avoid encountering high risk financial hassles, you must choose a merchant account provider that don’t have problems with this. So you have done your research, now what do you do? Choose a provider that not only meets all your technical needs but also one that has a proven track record over many years, with thousands of satisfied clients, provides world class customer service and low fees, and offers a 100% money back guarantee so you can try them out. Never settle for second best. Your business is depending on it.

Whether to start a new online business or be passionate online shoppers in both cases you need to have a right shopping cart for a better deal. Whenever you come to this term you may have some question that how it works, what have its functionality or how can it help me make my online shopping successful. Basically shopping carts are used to calculate the due payment you owe after making order for the products. You can opt for a shopping cart either installed with the store or can have a your own but there are some points to be considered before whenever you wish the best shopping cart for you.

The more important issues here are to check for compatibility your shopping cart has with the hosting site or not. There are many features with a shopping cart which should be compatible with the sites you are dealing with.

Payment gateway compatibility
Though majority of shopping carts commonly supports multiple gateway for the payment but there are some others too which can create problem and prove to be failure in accepting desired gateways. So whenever choose a shopping cart first check for its compatibility with the payment gateway you opt for.

Scripts Compatibility

You may find the shopping cats coded in different script like, PERL, PHP, ASP etc that seek the similar scripting with your host sites so be careful for it while choosing your shopping cart.

Order Feed-Back Features
Ensure that the shopping cart has an option to send an email confirmation when a customer completes an order as well as a reminder to print the order details.

Have option to link with shipping status?
You will prefer to have time to time information for your product delivery options. Your shipping cart should have linking facility to access the shipping information anytime you nee.

Product Enlisting Option
Your shopping cart should give you the option of bulk uploading of products. The product pages should be search engine friendly. Besides this you should also be able to create and manage your product attributes.

Besides this there are still some other features which should be kept into mind. An SEO friendly page and quality content can also help converting your shopping tool more compatible and acceptable. You can also check for comparing facility or even to have shipping rate calculating facility in addition to all these points. Just refresh your idea with over said information and start searching for right shopping cart to serve your multipurpose need.

OK – Just What Is A Shopping Cart Supposed to Do?
Shopping carts are more commonly used as a way to display physical products, products like televisions, groceries, electronic equipment, clothes, and memorabilia, etc, NOT digital products. Shopping carts make it easy to cross-sell and up-sell your customers once they arrive at your store. Shopping carts typically handle the shipping and handling calculation, taxes and credit card processing. A good shopping cart handles all of these efficiently and securely.

Dynamic Operation
A good shopping cart program also creates dynamic order forms on the fly as the order takes place. The shopping cart should be totally dynamic; meaning it only executes code and retrieves products, images, and product descriptions from your database when your customers request it. During the checkout process it should also calculate shipping/handling and taxes for you.

Real-Time Credit Card Processing
Powerful CGI, PHP, CFM, ASP, etc, scripting, processes commands for you on secure servers when your customers place their orders. Don’t get this confused with credit card processing. What I’m speaking of here is the passing of your customers’ order information from a secure form, to your merchant or payment processor, using one of the scripting languages above. Your payment processor or merchant, like PayPal, 2CheckOut, or Authorize.Net will then process the credit card. If you don’t currently have a merchant or payment processor, and you are going to be selling online, then you NEED one.

Usability
You can choose what options you want your customer to see. For instance, you can choose to display a search form on your shopping cart. A search form allows your customers to search your store for items by keyword or product name, etc. You can choose to display options like color, size and quantity, and even adjust the price based on the customer’s selection. These are called options. Your shopping cart should also allow you to upload images of your products as well.

Stand-Alone -vs- Hosted Shopping Carts
However, you CAN purchase standalone shopping cart software or services. The stand alone software, of course, requires skill and expertise to install it on your web host or on your own server. Some of the shopping cart services, although it may not seem like it at first, limit you as to what you can and cannot do. These services are most commonly offered by web hosts as a way to entice you to host your site with them. When using these types of services, remember, you’re locked into using that web host when you opt to use their shopping cart service. Your business is not portable and becomes a part of that web host. Make sure there is a simple export process that allows you to easily download your website and shopping cart if you no longer wish to use their services. In my opinion, the best option is to use a shopping cart that runs from your own website, independent of your web host. Both Prowebware and stand-alone shopping cart applications run from YOUR website, giving you both control and flexibility.

So, Which Is The Right System For You?
Choosing a shopping cart boils down to 4 things:
1 Your Budget – Is FREE your only option or are you
serious about your business?
2 Your Skill-level – Do you have the expertise to
edit & install scripts on your server?
3 Desired Functionality – Want a professional results
oriented system or a display case?
4 Time – Have time to take away from your business to
shape and mold a new program?

Whatever you decide, your cart should also permit you to follow-up with your customers automatically and even instantly auto-subscribe them to your mailing list.

To implement most out-of-the-box applications, you will need to know how to edit PHP, HTML, or ASP code and how to set up a MySQL database on your server for dynamic operation. Then, with some, all you need to know is how to copy/paste some simple code to your existing web pages or the template you’re using. The system should also include some type of easy help or instructions, like an HTML file or contextual help menus that walk you through setting up your new cart.

If either of these fits you, a “Copy/Past” system, or a boxed program, then, why not try one of them today? Try it out and see if the system is right for you.

Much Success To You!

Ettione Stuckey learned about carts the hard way – you don’t have to.

Physical products = Shopping Cart.

Digital products = NO Shopping Cart.

Benefit from his lessons, Checkout

Introduction

Choosing shopping cart software can turn into a tough job due to the large number of e-commerce solutions available on the market. Overall, it’s almost impossible to say which product is the best one since their feature richness, pricing, flexibility and the range of extra services vary to a great extent.

Therefore, buying the right product which fits into your goals can save a lot of time and effort, while a mistake may turn into extra costs, additional months of work or even cause starting the whole project from scratch.

There are several key factors which should be considered while picking the right solution. In this article, I’ll try to outline the most important steps that definitely should not be missed. The tactics described below may be varied according to your goals, however, following this advice will be useful in the decision-making process as a whole.

Key groups of factors

Who you are

In my opinion, the first thing you should ask is the role he’s going to play in the online store functioning process. The key factor of this role (at least for small and medium businesses) is the level of a person’s technical knowledge.

In most cases, technology is an issue for store owners, managers and administrators. Since each store needs its own unique design, functionality and storefront design along with the initial setup and server administration, you should clearly understand how these services could be purchased and what the manufacturer has to offer. Another important issue for this target group is the ease of administration and usage of basic functions.

Another group of users are web developers and designers who are technically skilled and usually maintain the store by themselves or develop e-commerce solutions for their clients (which usually involves complex code changes and development of extra functionality). For these people, the most important factors are: the quality of code, the ease of customization and add-ons implementation and flexibility of storefront design.

Types of shopping carts

All shopping cart solutions can be divided into two large groups: hosted and distributed.

Hosted carts are usually provided in the same manner as hosting services, which means that a customer has several predefined plans/packages (varying in number of products, monthly bandwidth, number of features, etc) to choose from. The pricing structure is also based on regular (monthly or yearly) fees. A hosting platform is provided directly from the manufacturer and the cart is usually activated without any actions needed from a client.

Hosted shopping carts are managed through the administration area which provides the interface to manage product catalog (add, remove items and edit their properties), define and change prices and so on. The storefront design can usually be altered by modifying templates, however, the access to the source code for hosted solutions is usually limited and it’s not always possible to modify the functionality.

Distributed solutions are sold at a fixed price (one-time fee for a lifetime license) as a software package which should installed on any compatible server chosen by a customer. After the initial setup, the store can also be managed using the administration area.

Usually such products come with source code and thus can be modified or extended to suit your needs. However, such modifications require good technical and programming knowledge (or working with those that have those skills).

Overall, hosted carts are often preferable for store owners as more easy to use and administer while web programmers, designers and developers mostly choose distributed solutions due to their flexibility.

Additional services

While most shopping cart features can often be used right out of the box, it’s important to note that in most cases online stores require some additional professional services.

For example, e-commerce software may come with a number of pre-installed design templates, but a serious store owner would usually have its own unique store look or integrating it’s existing design into the storefront. Also, since it’s impossible for an ecommerce product containing each and every possible feature or working the way which is totally suitable for everyone, a shopping cart manufacturer providing custom programming service is a good option in case you’re planning to implement some extended functionality.

Another option worth checking is whether it’s possible to get a fully-compatible hosting solution (since shopping carts usually have significant server-side requirements due to their complexity) and technical support (in case you need consultations or assistance in problem resolution).

Integration with external systems

Ecommerce software should not be treated as a standalone product, but rather as a solid ground for interaction between various components.

Not all operations are performed within the shopping cart engine. Most often, external services are used for payment processing, real-time shipping rates calculation, order processing systems, affiliate and statistics software, product directories and so on.

Thus, the richness of integration allows store owners to have a wider choice of services for their online business.

Technical support, forum & third-party solutions

Responsive technical support is another key factor which ensures that you’re not left alone with your problems and, in case the assistance is needed, you can be sure to receive a thoughtful response or a solution in a reasonable amount of time.

Support schemes from different companies may vary in type and costs. For shopping cart vendors, technical support is often on a pay-per-incident basis, or yearly/monthly flat-fee contract. Free technical support for ecommerce solutions is quite rare and may not always be effective or timely.

Forum activity is also a good indicator since it can be a good, free source of knowledge and assistance from experience software users.

In addition, it is advisable to check if third-party vendors offer modules or services related to a chosen e-commerce product to ensure that you will have a decent choice of extra solutions.

Tips and advice for research

Requirements

First of all, before proceeding with the actual product research, I’d advise that you collect the list of key features which are necessary for your upcoming online store. Such a checklist will allow you to ensure that all (or most) of them are present while examining features lists for chosen candidates.

Looking in search engines using relevant queries

Next, you may proceed with picking products for comparison. To find the most popular solutions, start searching in Google/Yahoo/MSN using relevant search phrases characterizing the product, like “shopping cart software”, “ecommerce solution”, “online store builder” etc.

For each query, pick products from top ten or top twenty search results. Visit their websites, compare product features and services presented there, pricing and any other information that you may consider relevant.

Looking for reviews and comments on forums and directories

For each product in your list, you would surely be interested to know what others have to say. In this case, independent sources provide valuable additions to official information from software vendors.

Most likely, product profiles along with customer reviews can be found on large script and software libraries like HotScripts, Freshmeat and Download.com. Also, check out some comparison sites, for example, Epinions and Shopping-Cart-Reviews.com. Also, you may search through archives or start a new thread with your questions at popular IT forums, like SitePoint or WebmasterWorld.

Contacting sales department with your questions

Finally, I’m sure that for your short list of solutions, some questions may still remain. This is a good reason to contact a vendor’s sales team to find out their responses. Do not hesitate to do it, since the quality of feedback and attention to you as a potential client is worth checking before you actually proceed with the purchase.

Conclusion

Choosing shopping cart software may not seem easy since it involves significant effort from a serious customer. However, the rewards for the effort is obvious: you get a product which fits into your goals and allows you to concentrate on sales and marketing without worrying about the technical side. Moreover, as a client, you get to know the software vendor before buying a product and ensure that the technical side can be handled without a problem.

As a possible option, I’d like to suggest that you take a look at ecommerce products from the company I work for, Qualiteam Software. We are the makers of two PHP shopping carts, X-Cart and LiteCommerce. Both of our solutions come with an open source code and can be used both as ready out-of-the-box shopping cart solutions and powerful shopping cart engines for a customized web shop. We also provide the whole range of extra services, including (but not limited to): shopping cart hosting, e-commerce web site design, custom development, installation services & 24/7 technical support.

Good luck in your research.

Every day thousands of web sites are launched on the online world. And each of them is offered under a unique domain name. CMather.com statistics show that most of such sites are related to business rather than personal sites.

To open a business is similar to building a house. Before you start building, of course you have to lay the firm foundation. The house will only be safe for living when a firm and secure foundation is constructed with a quality building plan. So, don’t forget that a good domain name is a high quality foundation, in other words a successful start-up for your business.

Not everybody takes buying a domain name into account. Some people consider that if a domain name they have chosen doesn’t fit their needs there won’t be any problem with buying another one. Buying an incorrect domain name can have drastic consequences towards your business. People remember domain names and often can lead to difficult situations or confusion when a domain name is changed.

So, to choose the right domain name you should take the following tips into consideration:

1. A domain name should be simple and easily-remembered.
It’s better to choose a short, simple name that is suitable for your company profile. What do you do if all the optimum short domains are in use? No trouble. In this case you can choose an easily-remembered word or word combination. In fact, not shortness, but simplicity and memorisation are more important criteria to stamp your web site’s address onto the memory of the visitors and clients. For example, if you want to buy a short domain name such as bendigohosting.com for web hosting business but it is already taken you can consider buying bendigo web hosting. The main thing is that it will be easily remembered.

2. Avoid hyphens and digits.
Every company wants a professional image on the Internet. From this point of view a domain name plays an important role. The domain name introduces and represents your company profile everywhere on the online world. If you use hyphens, various digits or other signs in the name of a website, it looks unprofessional. You can even lose your potential clients because of an untidy or complicated domain name. In other word, except letters, use various signs only when it’s just necessary, or you cannot find another alternative variant.
